Effects of Cognitive and Behavioral Coping and Social Supports on Post Traumatic Growth : depending on PTSD Symptom Severity

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine post-traumatic growth(PTG), post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD), cognitive/behavioral coping and the relevance of social supports. The subjects of this study were fire- fighters(n=276) who are frequently exposed to the traumatic events, and they were divided into two groups - PTSD group and non-PTSD group - Using the scores of K-PDS. We performed Multi-group Structural Equation Model(MSEM) analysis. As the results of analysis, in case of PTSD group (K-PDS>20), the cognitive and behavioral coping and social support were found all have significant relationship with post-traumatic growth. However, the non-PTSD group (K-PDS<20) was found that only cognitive coping and social support have significant relationship with post-traumatic growth. The behavioral coping was not confirmed with a significant relationship with post-traumatic growth in the non-PTSD group. After a traumatic event, these results can be seen those of greatly suffering mental anguish to advance the more positive changes after trauma, are not just staying in cognitive coping but aggressive behavior coping that should be parallel parsing.
